The always fierce, forever business savvy Tyra Banks has just launched a brand-spankin’ new fashion and beauty site called TypeF.com. And thanks to my expertise gleaned from writing Fashion 101, her fashion-forward team asked none other than me to drop some knowledge on fashion’s most vital wardrobe staple, the Little Black Dress (LBD). Check the article here and let me know what you think!

I’m a total nerd for NPR. So when I woke up this morning to an email from fab writer Melissa Walker informing me that Fashion 101 was going to be featured on All Things Considered, well…I was (and am) beyond stoked. Take a listen to the broadcast here and be sure to leave a comment and recommend the story to your fashionista friends.
My last book, Fashion 101: A Crash Course In Clothing, has been made into a game! The Box Girls, who make super cute, smartly-designed boxed card games, has just released the Fashion 101 Box of Answers. It features some of the same info featured in the book–the skinny on what different items of clothing look like, the eras that inspired them, the celebs who made them hot and how to wear them. While the cards don’t feature everything that’s in the book, they do cover a solid 75 iconic items, including Baby Doll dress, Mini skirt, Military Coat, Polo shirt, Capri pants and Hot pants.
Each year, we spend hours upon hours shopping and getting dressed, but do we ever actually think about what we’re wearing? For example, what’s the name of the style of your shirt? Who invented your favorite jeans cut? Or who made your baby-doll nightie famous? There is a story behind every piece of clothing and, with Fashion 101, you’ll learn what those stories are.
Want to know where the miniskirt came from? Why the military has had a stronger influence on fashion than either Audrey Hepburn or Gwen Stefani? How denim makers work those perfect “whiskers” into your “worn-out” jeans? Filled with tons of intriguing factoids about designers and celebrities, and more than 300 illustrations, Fashion 101 offers the total scoop on underwear, outerwear, accessories, and everything in between. With this crash course, you’ll learn not only how to put together smarter looks, but also how to become a fashion expert in the process.
